Al Fresco Dining brings a safe & enjoyable experience to Southern California.
SoCal restaurants and eateries have been among the hardest-hit businesses by
the COVID-19 pandemic. With Los Angeles County public health orders restricting indoor dining, many small businesses are now relying on outdoor dining to safely serve their patrons. In Los Angeles, the City of Glendale was one of the first cities to implement an "Al Fresco Dining Program." This program provides local dine-in restaurants with a low-cost alternative to re-establish their customer base by offering outdoor dining on public and private properties.
To further assist these businesses, the Glendale City Council has agreed to waive the fees for both the Sidewalk Dining and Temporary Certificate of Occupancy Permits until capacity levels return to 100 percent, or until December 31, 2020. Since the implementation of this program, the City of Glendale's Economic Development Division has received numerous applications from local businesses requesting an outdoor dining permit. With funding of $150,000, the City has installed over ten parklets that can be found throughout Glendale. These parklets, protected by k-rails, provide patrons with a safe dining experience through distanced seating.
